Water Baptism

Why Water Baptism?

We believe that water baptism, by full immersion, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is commanded of all who have repented and believed upon Christ as Saviour and Lord. Water Baptism is symbolic of our identification with Christ in his death, burial and Resurrection.

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo; I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”

Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said to them, ‘repent and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 10:47-48 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should be baptised who have received the Holy Spirit just have we have? And he commanded them to be baptised in the name of the Lord.”

Romans 6:4-5 “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Colossians 2:12 “buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”

Pre Baptism Classes

Baptism classes are held just before the time set aside to baptise you. The class will explain the reasons and importance of Baptism. It will run through the process of being baptised and answer any questions that you may have. Please tell the Pastor about any medical conditions that you may have before they proceed with the baptisms.

What to wear and bring

  • Bring a clean change of clothes and a bag for your wet clothes afterwards
  • All those who are getting baptised are instructed not to wear any light colours (white, beige, etc) as they tend to become transparent when wet.
  • Bring a towel to dry off with afterwards.

Who to invite

Please invite your family and friends to the service to witness your baptism. Also ask them to stay behind afterwards as we provide an opportunity for them to meet with some of our Pastoral staff. Either morning tea or supper will be served to celebrate this step of faith you have taken. Please give some indication of numbers for catering purposes.

We have e-invites that you can include in an e-mail to your friends and family. Please select one of the following images:
